I hope every is doing well on this rainy day. I just wanted to discuss and remind students about their two weekly homework grades that should be completed every week.
First, students have been working on Greek/Latin root words and prefixes since September. Almost every week they have received a handout with their new root/prefix/suffix homework to complete. Students are to choose two words from the list for each prefix to write definitions for. It is important that students learn Greek/latin roots as well as prefix and suffixes in order to help them with learning unknown words while reading. Students are receiving their new homework for next week today. Students have until next Friday to complete the homework. Attached is a picture of a poster that has all of the prefix homework and upcoming due dates for some.
Second, students are to complete all of their lessons on Student.ReadingPlus.com. This is a new program Griffin has rolled out this year for students to increase their reading comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary. Students have been required to complete all of their lessons on ReadingPlus each week. The program automatically resets each Monday. Therefore, students cannot "go back" to complete the incomplete lessons.
However, if you have zeros for not completing your ReadingPlus homework, I have make-up opportunity for you. Please go to Commonlit.org and complete the assignments, "Are Humans Really Headed To Mars Anytime Soon?" and "Should We Terraform Mars?" Please complete both assignments no later than Wednesday, April 24th. This will allow me time to grade any make-up work and have the new grade inputted before grades are due for Progress Reports.
Moving forward, there are only 4 1/2 short weeks left of this school year. Please end the year strong by staying on top of your work and turning work in on-time. Your teachers have done our best to prepare you for 8th grade. However, only YOU? can truly determine your own success.
If you have any questions, please reach out to me. If you do not get a response back from me within a day, do not hesitate to resend the email. A LOT of parent emails end up being sent to our "spam" folder. I try my best to check it daily so I do not miss any emails.
Please check-in with your student daily to see if they have any work or studying to complete. Most students have the mindset that once Milestones Testing is over that they are done. Our last day of school isn't until May 24th. Every day teachers are working to preview next year's standards with our students.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read through all of this!
Have a great weekend!
Matchbook Project due May 10th!!!
