This week we eased back into things. Students took the UNIT 3 pretest on Monday & Tuesday. Yesterday, we spent some time creating a midyear goal to work towards and reach by the end of the school year. Before the break, we read "A Christmas Carol" and analyzed the dialogue, character development, and figurative language. We are revisiting it today and tomorrow by watching the Disney film version to compare the film to the book.
On Monday, I will be discussing the unit, major assignments, and weekly assignments for the new 9 weeks. We will continue working with greek/latin root words. Students will get their new word on either Monday or Tuesday.
Since this is the 9 weeks that leads up to students taking Georgia Milestones, we will be doing test prep frequently. We will be in the computer lab once a week for students to work on our new implementation of the ReadingPlus program (students signed up before Christmas break & have access to it at home). The login information is below.
Sitecode - rpgriff1

I will also work on getting them signed up for Readtheory.com (Finally!) so they have an account to use from now until they leave Griffin! Both of these sites will help with their reading comprehension and vocabulary.
I highly encourage students to go to these sites to practice at home to help prepare them for the Milestones.
Another resource I will provide student logins for a writing practice site called Quill.org that will help with writing!
All good things to come in the next few weeks!!
